Get a piece of ¾” sanded plywood. It would be 2 feet by 2 feet. You can ask the store person to cut it down for you to get it in your desired measurements.

Get a board of 1″ by 12″. The store person can cut it for you.

Make use of the ¾” wood screws and attach them to the plywood.

Give the wooden platform a light sanding. Use sandpaper for this.

Apply one coat of Varathane water-based polyurethane on it. We went for the matte finish as we like the look it creates.

Once the first coat dries, apply another coat. You can give three coats in total.

Leave it overnight to dry completely.

Once dried, place your beautiful planters on it and enjoy the beauty you just created!

  • ¾” hardwood dowel – walnut, red oak, teak, rosewood, etc.
  • 1/8″ dowels
  • 1 ½” x ¾” hardwood lumber – get the wood type same as the dowel
  • Wood glue
  • Drill press
  • Clamps
  • Table saw
  • Natural wood finish
  • ¾” Forstner bit
  • Fine grit sandpaper
  • Orbiter palm sander (optional)

Now, how can you make it?

For the crossbars, cut two lengths of 1 ½” x ¾” longer than the pot’s diameter.

On each length, measure the halfway point. Then cut out a 3/4″ x ¾” notch with a jigsaw.

Take each crossbar and clamp it into your drill press. Halfway across the Forstner bit, mill out each end halfway.

At the center of each end of the crossbars, drill 1/8″ holes that are ½” deep.

You already have a preferred height of the plant stand, right? According to that, cut four lengths of ¾” dowel.

In each ¾” dowel, drill 1/8″ holes at the desired height of the pot base. In order to have the best centering result, make use of a self-centering drill press jig.

To make sure that everything fits together, attach all the pieces together. Also, you need to ensure that the stand is leveled. Now, what if it’s not balanced perfectly? Well, you need to make the necessary adjustments. For example, you can widen the notches in the crossbars by making use of a coarse file. Or you can take help of your jigsaw.

Once everything is in place and fitted perfectly, sand them smooth.

Take wood glue and use it on each joint and dowel hole to make sure that each piece is tightly attached to the other. Now leave it for 10 to 12 hours.

To seal and give a finishing touch to the stand, use your favorite wood finish.
