Best Pole Hedge Trimmers

#1. Greenworks Cordless Pole Hedge Trimmer

Greenworks Cordless Pole Hedge Trimmer
View Latest Price

A battery powers this pole hedge trimmer from the house of Greenworks.

Have you used any other tool made by this company? Then you might have a spare battery in your garage.

And in that case, I have good news for you!

You can use the same battery for this extendable pole hedge trimmer – 40v.

This company is kind to the environment, hence the name: Greenworks.

Now, it is entirely emission-free and runs pretty quietly from the pole hedge trimmer.

As the battery power it, you get unlimited range. So you don’t have to worry about cords getting tangled. You can use it for about half an hour by using a single battery. And if you want to increase the work time, you can invest in a spare battery too. Get an extra battery only if you have a lot of yard work.

It comes with a dual-action steel blade of 20 inches. Use is to cut through branches of about 5/8 inches.

I liked the most about this pole hedge trimmer because you get to set the head in various positions. This gives you a lot of control. So you can use it to trim hedges in awkward corners too.

Compared to other options that you get in the market, this unit is somewhat more lightweight. Therefore, most of you can use it with ease. Also, you can extend its height to trim higher branches. It is time to give your ladder some rest!

Did I tell you that this tool comes with a four-year warranty? And a two-year warranty for the battery?

Well, this is more than what most companies offer.

I didn’t quite like this pole hedge trimmer because its shaft feels a little flimsy when you extend it fully. However, this will not lead to any issues.

Another downside of using this tool is that the teeth can become jammed, sometimes when you cut more challenging branches. However, you can clear it with ease.

Do you want to get your hands on a cordless pole trimmer that works just great?

This tool from the house of Greenworks can be the one!

Pros:

  • There is no cord, and you can use it for up to thirty minutes by charging once
  • It comes with a four-year warranty.
  • The steel blade is durable to make the work of trimming easy
  • With this tool, you can have an almost noiseless operation
  • You can easily wield it as it is lightweight

Cons:

  • When you extend it completely, the stuff feels a little weak
  • When you cut more rigid branches, the cutters can snag occasionally

#2. GARCARE Multi-Angle Corded Pole Hedge Trimmer

GARCARE Multi-Angle Corded Pole Hedge Trimmer
View Latest Price

From the house of GARCARE, this pole hedge trimmer is one of the best!

This tool comes with a powerful 4.8amp motor.

Need some extra kick?

Get this one!

This model of pole hedge trimmer comes corded. There is a 20” blade that is diamond ground and laser-cut. It makes sure that you have an enhanced cutting experience. Also, the sharpness of the blade stays long. The cutting capacity of this tool is ¾”. This means you can use it for the most demanding job out there in your yard.

I liked the most about this pole hedge trimmer because it comes with an adjustable head. And you can change it to six positions! This makes it perfect for cutting at all angles.

Do you want to trim high-up hedge tops? Or, do you want to deal with the corners that are hard to reach?

Well, with this tool, you can get the job done – with ease!

This pole hedge trimmer can reach up to 9.2 ft. This means you can trim much higher branches than you can with a regular hedge trimmer. And for that, you don’t even need a ladder to balance on.

The ergonomic handles have soft rubber, making it easy for you to hold and have a firm grip on the pole hedge trimmer while operating.

The weight of most of the unit is centered on the blade that is on the end of the tool. So, you can find the balance to be a little off when you extend it completely. I didn’t like it.

If you need to cut overhead directly, it will not be of any problem. However, when you extend it horizontally, the tool’s head will start weighing down. And, if you use it in this way for quite some time, it will cause you arm pain. And you don’t want that, right?

There’s another thing about this pole hedge trimmer that I didn’t find attractive. It doesn’t come with any lock button for the “on” switch. However, some might find it good, considering it a safety measure. Because the motor will stop the moment you let go of the switch. This can prevent accidents during operations.

If the trimmer is in the extended position and you need to cut some branches closer to you, you have two options. You either have to cut with one hand-stretched right behind you, or you have to stop your operation and shorten the pole. But, again, this is not something I found user-friendly.

But you can definitely check this tool out, given the price point and the quality you get it in.

Pros:

  • It gives you that extra kick you need to do tough cutting jobs
  • You can change the blade in six positions for some additional functionality
  • The diamond-ground blade comes with extra sharpness to make cutting jobs easy
  • The maximum cutting capacity is ¾”. This means you can trim tough and thick trees and hedges
  • You can extend it a lot. So you can easily cut high branches

Cons:

  • As the head section is heavy, you can find it hard to balance when you extend it fully
  • The “on” switch doesn’t come with a lock. This makes it quite awkward to cut closer branches with full extension.

#3. Earthwise 2-In-1 Convertible Pole Hedge Trimmer

Earthwise 2-In-1 Convertible Pole Hedge Trimmer
View Latest Price

Do you want a pole hedge trimmer with a great design?

The one from Earthwise is the one.

This pole hedge trimmer comes with an innovative design. You can switch between two modes.

The advantage?

You can use it as a regular trimmer for branches that are easy to reach. And you can use it as a pole trimmer for times when you need to cut high branches.

This makes it all the more convenient compared to most other pole trimmers. With this, you can either cut branches at your chest height or use them to cut high branches in your yard.

When you use it just as a pole trimmer, it works great. It comes with a blade that is 18”. This is a little bit smaller compared to other pole hedge trimmers on my list. But the height makes it just perfect for detailed cutting jobs where you need precision.

However, there is a downside to it too. If you need to cut larger branches, it will take a lot more time than most other pole hedge trimmers. This makes a difference only when you need to do lots of heavy-duty cutting. If you need the trimmer for this purpose, then this might not be the one for you.

This tool has got a total length of 8’8” when extended. And once you open it fully, you will get a decent amount of reach. So you can trim those taller branches and hedges that need some grooming.

This pole hedge trimmer can be set into six positions, giving you control over how you want to trim your bushes. Also, with this tool, you get to reach even the tight corners of your yard.

I don’t like this trimmer because it can be heavy for you when you extend it fully. This is because, on the cutting end, the weight is centered. And this problem is common with many other trimmers available in the market.

Also, this tool has another issue. I already told you that it has six positions, right? However, there is no 90-degree mode. This means, if you are standing next to a tall hedge and directly below and want to trim it, you can’t.

This tool can work for you if you are looking for a small trimmer and want to use it as a regular trimmer and sometimes as a pole trimmer.

Pros:

  • It works both as a pole trimmer and a regular trimmer
  • For maximum flexibility, it comes with six different position modes
  • It comes with a lot of power so that you can do your day-to-day trimming jobs with ease
  • It is good for small, more detailed tasks

Cons:

  • Similar to almost all gas-powered models, this pole hedge trimmer becomes quite heavy when you extend it fully
  • It doesn’t come with a 90-degree setting. This means you can use it to trim hedge tops while still standing on the ground.

#4. Sun Joe Electric Telescoping Pole Hedge Trimmer

Are you on a budget?

Then this pole hedge trimmer from the house of Sun Joe can be a great choice!

This corded electric trimmer is easy to use. It is a high-quality product but still priced very reasonably. And with this, you can cut those hard-to-reach branches in your yard.

The first time I got this tool, what caught my eyes was the amount of reach that it provided. You can extend the telescopic handle easily by up to 7.4ft. Now, that’s quite a lot – I must say! This means you can reach about 13 ft in total with this trimmer.

I liked the adjustable pivoting head of this trimmer quite a lot. With this, you can have the maximum amount of flexibility over how you want to use it.

Did I tell you that you can change its angle from -90 degrees to +60 degrees?

This allows you to cut all types of bushes, trees, and shrubs – even in the tightest corners.

Want to give a flat top to your tall bush?

This tool can work its magic.  All you need is to set it at 90 degrees. Then, you can cut while still standing on the ground. And you don’t need to take the help of a ladder.

It comes with a 3.8 amp motor. You can cut anything that has a diameter of up to 0.7”. This gives you a lot of cutting power.

Another thing that I liked about this tool is the blade that it comes with. It has a length of 18”. So you can deal with quite a wide variety of jobs. Hardened rust-resistant steel is used to make this blade. It is built to last and designed for high levels of performance.

I didn’t like this pole hedge trimmer because it’s a little heavy. Also, if you cut overhead branches for a long duration, your arms will start aching. However, most users find it easy to manage.

The safety strap that it comes with is also of not much use, mainly when you use the tool in an overhead position.

Overall, it’s good to use. It has a push-button startup. So you can configure it quickly and get the job done with ease.

Pros:

  • After extending it entirely, you can get a total reach of 13 ft
  • To provide you with some extra flexibility, it comes with a multi-angle configuration
  • It offers an excellent value for money
  • The push-button that it comes with makes it easy to start and run

Cons:

  • Some of you may find it challenging to hold for an extended period of time because of its weight
  • The safety strap doesn’t do much. It can, in fact, get in your way, especially when you are trimming high branches.

#5. BLACK+DECKER Cordless Pole Hedge Trimmer

BLACK+DECKER Cordless Pole Hedge Trimmer

Are you looking for a cordless pole hedge trimmer option that offers excellent trimming?

You can give this one a shot!

It comes from the house of BLACK+DECKER. You get an 18” dual-action blade with this tool that is perfect for providing you with great precision while trimming bushes, hedges, and shrubs. It can cut anything that is up to 7/16” thick.

Compared to single-action blades, this dual-action blade operates with less vibration. So again, this is something that I liked about this tool.

Did I tell you that it comes with 180 degrees pivoting head?

And you can change it to five different positions. Use it to cut low and high-growing plants.

This pole hedge trimmer weighs just about 7.7 lbs. And you can adjust it too.

Extend it for doing your trimming work to a height of up to 11 ft. This means you can access hard-to-reach and tall branches with ease.

Did you know the most significant benefit of using a corded pole hedge trimmer?

Well, you get unlimited runtime for even the toughest and the most prolonged trimming jobs.

It comes with rust-proof fiberglass sections. Also, it has a durable interlocking section for a secure and robust connection.

The manufacturer has taken care of the comfort of its users by providing a soft-grip handle. This works great for times when you need to use it for extended hours.

A hassle-free trigger makes the starting of this pole hedge trimmer as easy as a breeze.

I liked the 20v max lithium-ion battery that it comes with.

Did I tell you that it can hold a charge for up to eighteen months?

Also, the battery is interchangeable. This means you can use it with many other tools.

I don’t like the fact that it is a bit heavy. This can cause fatigue to your arms if you use it for long hours.

Pros:

  • The dual-action blade is perfect for providing you with great precision while trimming bushes, hedges, and shrubs.
  • The battery is interchangeable, so you can use it with multiple other tools.
  • The soft-grip handle makes it easier to hold
  • The battery can hold a charge for up to eighteen months
  • The interlocking section is durable
  • It comes with 180 degrees pivoting head
  • You can change it to five different positions

Cons:

  • It is a bit heavy, making it uncomfortable to use for long hours
  • The blade becomes somewhat flimsy when you extend it

How Can You Choose the Best Pole Hedge Trimmer?

Before you make your final decision, I say, read this to know what you should look for while buying the best pole hedge trimmer for your yard.

#1. Different kinds of Pole Hedge Trimmers

One of the most vital things that you need to decide while buying a pole hedge trimmer is how it’s powered. There are three basic types:

  • Electric

In order to use the electric pole hedge trimmers, you just need to plug them into an outlet. And you are all set to do your yard work.

Electric trimmers come with several benefits. First, they seem to be the most pocket-friendly option available in the market. Secondly, as there are no batteries to weigh them down, they are lightweight. Thirdly, compared to other variants of pole hedge trimmers, the electric ones run quieter. And lastly, they are environment-friendly.

But there is a downside to this kind of trimmer too. You need to plug it into an outlet in order to use it, and it should remain like that the entire time you use it. This suggests that you need to invest in quite a lot of extension cords. This will add up to the price of your purchase. Also, it will take quite some time to set up whenever you want to trim the bushes in your yard.

  • Gas-powered

The gas-powered ones are considered the most powerful of them all. Also, compared to the battery-powered trimmers, they last longer. So, if you have a big trimming task in your yard, this type of trimmer can be suitable for you.

Of course, gas-powered pole hedge trimmers come with multiple drawbacks. Compared to the other kinds of trimmers, they are more costly. Also, you may find it difficult to start. And they need more maintenance.

  • Cordless

The cordless pole hedge trimmers are battery-powered. This makes them easy to carry around. With these, you can cut the branches that are there in the hard-to-reach corners. Also, compared to the gas-powered ones, these are much quieter.

Of course, these too have some downsides to them. Do you have a big yard? You may need a second battery to complete work in your entire yard. Compared to the electric ones, the battery-powered trimmers are more costly. This is especially true for the trimmer that doesn’t come with a battery and a charger.

#2. Overall Weight

To use the trimmer, you will be holding it in your arms, right? This makes it all the more important for you to pay attention to the tool’s weight that you buy. You can have a vague idea about the product’s weight by knowing the type of trimmer.

Generally, the electric pole hedge trimmers are the lightest of them all. The cordless models are also somewhat light. On the other hand, the gas-powered ones have the most weight.

#3. Trimmer Blade

If you want to get your yard job done effortlessly, you need a trimmer with a sharp blade. The size of the trimmer can give you an idea of how the trimmer will work.

A blade of 16″ can get the job done for average to small hedges. For somewhat larger ones, 18″ will do. And for the most extensive hedges, go for a blade that is at least 20″ or larger.

#4. Comfort

How comfortable is the pole hedge trimmer to hold?

Make sure to know the answer before you make your purchase. There are certain features in the trimmer that you should look out for.

Trimmers with more than one handle are easier to hold and use. If a trimmer comes with more than one power switch, it will make it easy for you to turn the model on and off comfortably. Go for the ones that offer less vibration, for example, dual-action models. This will make your entire trimmer using experience pleasurable.

#5. Rotating Head

You already read my reviews, right?

You have seen that many of them come with rotating heads. When it comes to comfort and efficiency, this feature becomes essential.

While holding the hedge trimmer in a comfortable grip, you can rotate its head to your desired angle. This allows you to do your yard work with perfection.

#6. Noise During Use

Generally, the gas-powered trimmers are louder than the portable or electric trimmers.

However, all hedge trimmers are somewhat loud. Therefore, in order to protect your hearing, always make sure to wear protective gear over your ears while using a pole hedge trimmer.
