2. WORX WG794 Landroid Robotic Lawn Mower

If you are looking for an all-round robotic lawn mower, then take a close look at the WORX WG794 Landroid mower. It has smart features, operates quietly, it’s safe to use and very affordable.  If you no longer fancy the weekly routine of keeping the lawn maintained, an efficient robotic lawn mower can come in handy. It’s one of the most hands-free approaches to getting lawn tasks done in as little time as possible.

Design and Features

The black and orange color finish adds some aesthetic dimension to the overall appearance of the lawn mower. Landroid lawn mower measures 9.9 x 15 x 22 inches and incorporates the functionality of a floating deck design that helps it navigate hills and valleys without sliding downwards.  The 7-inch cutting deck is a noticeable drawback and only suitable for very small lawns.

The power needed to propel this lawn mower comes from a 2,800rmp motor that is powered by 28volt, 2,500 Amp Li-ion battery system. The battery requires about 90 minutes to get charged and guarantee about 60 minutes of runtime.

Cutting Height

There is a big red button located at the top of the hatch that opens up to reveal a set of dial button.  The dial buttons help you adjust the cutting deck height from 1.0-4.0 inches in height.  The opened hatch also reveals the control panel that allows users to set personal mowing preferences. The control panel’s general settings include time format, date, language, and rain delay settings.  The rain delay settings help the mower return back to base when the sensors signal a pending downpour.  The mower then waits (delay settings) for a predetermined time before returning back to its cutting cycle.

Ease of Use

The preprogrammed settings of this lawn mower make it very easy to use straight out of the box. However, you still need to spend a reasonable amount of time setting up the string boundaries to limit or define the area of operation. After setting up the copper strings, you still need to monitor the robotic mower for a few mowing sessions to ensure it stays within its boundary. Despite the positives, the copper strings are very sharp and pose a significant risk to kids.

Once you are done with the primary settings, the mower is about as hands-free a robotic mower can get.

Cutting Quality

Cutting quality is an area to be mindful of with robotic lawn mower. The small 7-inch cutting deck of the Landroid WG794 doesn’t make things easier but when you realize that you no longer have to manually push a lawn mower across your lawn the small size quickly becomes a non-issue. The cutting blades cut grass with the precision expected of any high-end lawn mower.

Maintenance

This mower is pretty easy to maintain and clean. The blades can be replaced easily while the Apps update themselves when there are valuable updates available. To avoid taking a beating the mower will retreat to a sheltered base location and will resume its cutting circle once it senses the area has dried out.

Buyer’s Guide to the Best Robotic Lawn Mowers

If you are a proud owner of a nice home with a beautiful lawn then you should do all you can within your power to ensure it is neatly kept.  Lawn owners impulsively purchase gas or electric lawn mowers at first but there are other alternatives that can get the job done a lot faster and with minimal effort.

While gas propelled lawn mower and electric mowers are standard machines in their own rights, robotic lawn mowers are in a class of their own. Mowing routines can be a tedious task; more often than not the thought of the energy we need to put things in place makes us procrastinate the chore. Procrastination is unhealthy.

To solve this problem, robotic lawn mowers are one of the choicest mowing equipment that will help take the burden off your shoulders. They are easy to maintain, stress-free and requires only some programmatic settings from the operator.

To help you choose the best, our team of experts looked into intricate details of these machines to arrive at a list of top 10 robotic lawn mowers.  Here are a few specs we laid much emphasis on:

Quality: Nothing beats quality. If you are to invest a considerable amount of money in a robotic lawn mower, make sure it was built to last.  We only considered robotic lawn mowers with robust features that help them handle continuous yard work.  As long as you carry out routine maintenance checks on the mower, it should maintain your lawn for many years.

Reviews: Customer reviews are a very good way to judge the quality and function of a robot lawn mower. Honestly we don’t have the resources needed to buy and test all products listed on this website so we rely heavily on community-based reviews on each product listed.  Our experts are experienced and well-grounded in an internet research.  They helped make this review article possible by reading and analyzing thousands of customer reviews in a number of websites. Only products with an above star rating were considered.

Brand: Brand name is a surefire route to some of the best robotic lawn mowers. Well established brands like Honda, Husqvarna, Troy-Bilt, Gardena etc. only produces high-quality mowers that will stand the test of time. They are definitely worth the extra investment dollars.

Price:When it comes to robotic lawn mowers, do not negotiate too much with the price. Prices can vary widely from one robotic mower to the next depending on special features, warranties and durability. We recommend that you take the one-off the risk of purchasing a high-quality product than having to deal with the hassles that come with a knock off product.

How Robotic Lawn Mowers Work?

If you have seen a robotic vacuum cleaner work then you already have a layman’s idea of how a robotic lawn mower operates.  The main working components of robotic lawn mowers are:

1. AC powered base station

2. Perimeter wire

3. Sensors

4. Battery operated motor

5. Cutting blades

Start by connecting the perimeter wire around the area you want covered. This boundary stops the robot lawn mower from wandering outside of the target area. Finish up this connection by joining the other terminal end to the base station.

The battery system charges the base which subsequently charges the perimeter wire. At this point the sensors on the lawn mower are called to action. The sensors detect the little electric charge on the perimeter wire and use that charge as a guide as it works along the boundaries. After the job is done or when the mower needs to recharge the battery, the sensors guide it back to base.

Expect battery runtimes from 30 minutes for small entry-level robotic lawn mowers to 4 hours for heavy-duty lawn mowers designed for large areas. Endeavor to match the size of your lawn to a mower with adequate battery runtime.

What to look out for in a Robot Lawn Mower?

1. Ease-of-use

Robot lawn mowers require that you set up a perimeter or boundary to the GPS navigation system of the mower. Once you have this setup, just sit back and allow it to do the job. They don’t require much effort, are less stressful to maintain and easy to operate.  The mowers listed in the review article require initial perimeter programming before they set out to do the job. Avoid any mower that requires more physical exertion on your part.

2. Cutting Quality

The main aim of purchasing a lawn mower is to cut grass. If you overlook this primary function there will be problems.  You want a robotic model that can shed grass in small pieces plus mulching capabilities for healthy grass growth.  There is no point running after a mower just to rake out the grass clippings from behind.

3. Slope or steeply hills

Robot lawn mowers aren’t built for sloppy terrains, at least for now. Maybe we will see more powerful models in the nearest future. Although, they can handle slight inclines they are generally designed for flat lawns. Look to more powerful hill lawn mowers if you have a sloppy lawn.

4. Perimeter control

Depending on the model and features that come with the mower you chose, they usually come with a GPS navigation system or a perimeter sensitive wire. The GPS navigation system helps you guide the mower to only work on specific areas of your lawn while the perimeter wire allows you to install a sensitive wire around the lawn to guide the mower. Whatever route you choose, be assured that the machine won’t cross its boundaries.

5. Lawn Size and Cutting Deck

As with many other lawn mowers, you need to be sure about the mowing capacity before you make an informed decision. For residential lawn mowers, a working capacity between 0.2-1.5 acres is ok.  Mowers that are designed for large lawns usually come equipped with high capacity batteries and extra packs to extend the mowing time.

Robot lawn mower cutting g decks are designed to match residential lawns. Some use single spinning blades while others use multiple spinning blades to get mowing jobs done.

6. Price

Robotic lawn mower is quite expensive to purchase so be sure to get one that is tailored to your needs. Light-duty mowers will cost much less than more robust counterparts but we must warn that you will get what you pay for.

Expect to pay anywhere near $600-$1000 for light-duty models and $2,500 - $3,500 for heavy-duty models. Expect to pay hundreds of dollars if you require professional installation.

7. Robust Features

After narrowing down your choice according to your needs, it’s time to consider additional features that make it easy to use.  Some mowers come equipped with very flexible programing features to blow your mind away.  For example you can create schedules within the control panel that allows the mower to concentrate on specific areas of your lawn. This feature can come in handy if you have a large lawn to take care of. Divide the lawn into multiple regions and program the lawn mower to concentrate on peculiar areas one at a time.

Although, robot lawn mowers are designed to operate under the rain we’d like to advise against it. Wet grass causes clogging underneath the deck hereby hindering smooth operation.  Mowers with weather sensing features retire to the base when there is about to be a heavy downpour.

All robotic lawn mowers decks can be adjusted by engaging a single level or dial system. The trick comes with their ability to manage sloppy terrains in varying degrees of inclination.

8.Programming Features

Here is a list of some of the required program features every robot mower should have:

  • On and off feature
  • Menus for setting seasonal timers
  • Scheduling cutting timers
  • Creating cutting zones
  • Running diagnostics
  • Viewing cutting history
